Frequently Asked Questions

Is this event just for women?

No! This event is an opportunity to honor women everywhere, and is a great way to spend Mother’s Day as a family! Many families have made this event a tradition, whether they are honoring a loved one or supporting a courageous survivor.

Although breast cancer mainly affects women, it does affect men as well. In 2009, there were an estimated 1,910 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in men in the United States. An estimated 440 men will die of breast cancer this year.

I can not attend, but I still would like to help. What can I do?

We are currently seeking volunteers for walk packet stuffing, packet pick up and other tasks which occur prior to the event date. We also welcome any donations to the cause!  If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Kari Langeberg at (701) 356-1470 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. How much do you hope to raise? Where do the funds raised go?

Our goal is to raise $10,000! This year’s walk funds benefit:

LIVESTRONG™ at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG™ at the YMCA is a free wellness program designed to build strength and self-confidence for cancer survivors. Adult and family programs are available at the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties for survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their disease and/or treatment. The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties is one of the first 20 YMCAs in the country chosen to launch this collaboration with the LIVESTRONG™ Foundation, which allows cancer survivors to rebuild strength, develop a support system following their battle
with cancer, and help prevent recurrence. The YMCA is proud to offer this program, as well as a YMCA membership for all LIVESTRONG at the YMCA participants, at no charge. Over 60% of those currently served at the local level are breast cancer survivors.

Susan G. Komen® Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Foundation is the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested nearly $1.5 billion since inception in 1982. As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, we’re working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.
